101 The Moving Route Point

When Editing the Trip on the XT Screen .....
It is that last operation that presents a problem. Changing a Via Point to a Shaping Point is likely to change the route, and change the name of the route point.
Here is one of many examples that I have produced for Garmin:
I decide to use a Shaping Point for XT MidPoint at Addingham. The reason is that a Via Point will insist that I visit it, but if I use a shaping point, then if I choose not to to stop for coffee the XT will not direct me back to it, once I have rejoined the magenta route.
I can change the Via Point to a Shaping Point by tapping the orange flag in the trip planner. When I do this, the route is recalculated and the Orange Flag changes to a blue disc to indicate that it is now a shaping point.
Like this
But there are problems:
- Look at the name in the trip list above. The XT has changed "XT Midpoint" to "A65"
- Look at its location of the blue disc on the map above and on the more detailed map. It has moved.
- I placed the point to mark an optional coffee stop in Addingham. The XT has shifted it to prevent me from going anywhere near it - onto a faster road to point 05.
- Changing a Via to a Shaping Point will often move the point, rename it and may alter the route.
- Changing a Shaping Point to a Via Point does not do this. It keeps the name and the location
This was recognised as a fault by Garmin when I reported it in September 2021. It is still present.
The issue was last checked and verified on my XT in January 2024
