Windows - A quick tour of the coloured areas

  1. The Toolbar. The toolbar can be configured - sections can be relocated and buttons can be excluded and included to simplify the display. Your menu will probably look different from mine.

  2. The Library showing a folder structure - List Folders, (eg 'Scotland 2021 Tour' and 'For Screen Shots') and Lists (eg 'Skipton from Ft William'). Lists can contain routes, tracks & Waypoints - as in pane 4. I use a folder for a long tour and a list for each day.

  3. Attached Devices. Shows Internal Storage and Memory Card. Routes, tracks and data can be transferred either way, and Basecamp provides tools to analyse the track logs from previous rides.

  4. The Data Window - shows the contents of the currently selected List (eg Skipton from Ft William); or the currently selected List Folder - which could display the entire multi-day Trip. Or the entire library.
The data that is shown in the data window is also drawn on the map. The filter buttons (not shown, but under pane 4) allow selection of types of data - eg Everything; just routes; just tracks; just Waypoints.

  5. The Map. It is important to make sure that the map used in Basecamp is the same as the map that is installed on the Zumo. If not, the Zumo will be forced to recalculate the route that you have prepared. The toolbar has a drop down selection menu to choose the map for Basecamp to use. Make sure that the chosen map matches the one that is ticked in Settings->Map & Vehicle->MyMaps on the XT.

  6. The Search Area (collapsible). Basecamp has a massive database of points. Searching finds points in the visible area of the map - so zoom in for faster results. Places are listed in this window and numbered on the map. Points can be selected and added to the list of Waypoints or to the route.
Check for accuracy of these points. I have found that many hotels are very roughly placed when checked against their actual location.
