Maybe You can use the Garmin Cure software to get Your device operational again? I think that by using this software You will lose all Your data that was on Your device before You formatted it. You can replace the pin with the tip from the ballpoint pen.
Also, put same tape to the bottom mount point of the cradle. To make the device sit tighter in the cradle.
