you can open gpx files with wordpad or notepad and edit them.They are just lines and lines of text .Its rather tedious but you can search for dates etc and split up the files .Its a while since i did that but you can experiment of course just make sure you have an original backup somewhere.I cant ...

pencil icon?The pencil icon for me is "INSERT' a via or shaping point into a route.If you have two routes open there is an option to join two routes under the edit/advanced menus

my nuvi is the same.I cannot delete routes sent to the nuvi from basecamp using the menus on the nuvi.I have to go into the temp or current folder on the nuvi and delete the route (gpx file) from there using the laptop

i think you need to tell us exactly what you want to do.

afaik a shaping point is only a non announced waypoint.When you place that point its actually a way point but if you right click it you can turn alerts off.It might actually be called a via point rather than waypoint
