Routes that are available for import can exist in a number of places.
When transferred to the device from Basecamp they are on the devices internal storage in a file named temp.gpx. This file will be overwritten the next time a transfer is made.
Any .gpx file copied to the device with a file explorer will remain available for import until that .gpx files is deleted.
Any individual .gpx file copied to the SD card with a file explorer will remain available for import until the .gpx file is deleted.
Unfortunately, the "Import" option does not provide a way to tell where each importable route file exists.

This can be an issue with data sent to your device. To permanently delete that kind of data you need to first delete the files you've sent then delete them off your device using the menus on the device. As already mentioned if you've sent the data using BaseCamp the file will be temp.gpx in the GPX folder on your device.
Perfect Guys!! Went into the Garmin Drive > Garmin > GPX > temp No Gone!! Nice and easy..... After learning from everyone here. Appreciate it, BIG TIME!
I just read through all 5 pages of this post. I have a 590 and am also looking at removing the internal files on the unit’s hard drive.
I have a pc (not a Mac).
It would be nice to have this as a step by step process, but I will thumb through the previous posts again and take notes.
I’m afraid of wreaking my gps, but I thought this was worth a try.
I don't believe that the 595 deletes temp.gpx the next time a transfer us made with a new USB connection. It keeps them - but it may have something to do with the MTP settings. And we discovered that there are later versions of the 595 which may behave differently.
My 590 never wiped them out, and that was set as a 595 for most of its life. I haven't tried it with my new proper 595.
Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !
^^^^
That's SUPER!!! I was just trying to re-create everything I read here and I am already stuck on the first thing. LOL
Back on page 2, you say
"......On the 595, to get the hidden .system folder, you have to enter the hidden system diagnostic page: View Map->Speed button->Long press large circular speedo button - 10 secs.
In there you will find Configuration & Settings -> MTP Settings
Is it the same on the 590? Do you do this while the gps is not pugged in? My battery is always so low. I will try to charge it, but alot of the times I just go out to the garage and set it on a cradle on my motorcycle. While it's on the bike (in the cradle), I do any fenaagling there.
Yes the same on the 590. Once you can see the .system folder you can move the JCV folder to the Garmin folder on the card to free up space on the internal drive if that's what you are trying to do?
^^^Yup. Free up space is what I am trying to do.
Thanks.
This is a screenshot of what is in the Garmin unit.
I haven’t moved or deleted anything yet.
I’m going to move the entire “Map” folder to the sd card. Before I move it, I’m going to make a folder in the sd card named “Garmin”.
That’s where I’ll drag and drop the ‘Map’ folder, correct?
Also, to free up more space, go into the “.System” folder and simply delete the “SID” folder, the “JVC” folder, the EULA folder?
Please confirm. I’m scared. Lol

I connect to Base Camp to delete routes in both internal memory and on the SD card (user memory). I'll make a trash list folder and list, put them there if I want to save them then delete from the device.
