That certainly would be easier than de-installing and re-installing the cable.
I will try that first, see if the problem goes away.
Thanks for the great idea...will post again when I have a result.
Going to rain here for a couple days, will get to it ASAP.
Thanks again got the great suggestion
Zumo XT turns off while riding
Re: Zumo XT turns off while riding
I finally have a few minutes to post here, been really busy.
I took the advice of Rofor and installed 2 pieces of black electrical tape to the back of the connector to give it extra support.
I then went on a 12 day riding vacation using the XT the whole time.
The XT did not shut off 1 time, even over pretty rough roads and for hours a day.
I am convinced that was the problem, and want to thank Rofor for the information.
It looks like just a bad design holding that connector, that depends on pressure to the pins, to the unit with only 1 small screw on the wrong end of the connector. Especially on a motorcycle prone to vibration and bumps.
I appreciate the support from everyone that added info to this post.
Hopefully I can give some support back to the group some day.
The XT is a very powerful tool for any rider. I am glad I bought one.
Thanks again to the Forum members...lets ride

Re: Zumo XT turns off while riding
The difference between the "new" and "old" mounts is not obvious to me. The only visible difference I see is the black patch between the bottom two mounting bolt holes on the new mount. Same issue with the "new" and "old" cable. Are there unique part numbers or other differentiators?
Thanks

Re: Zumo XT turns off while riding
I have been having some issues with my zumo XT and loss of charging in the motorcycle cradles. I have two cradles, one installed on my 2017 Honda Africa Twin, the other installed in my 2014 Yamaha FJR. The problem appeared at first to be randomly occurring midride, and seems to happen on both bikes, but I have more recently noticed that I’m losing the charging function only when it gets hot out. In the last instance, after a brief stop to refuel, the GPS would not switch to charging until I ran down the road a bit and cooled things off.
I don’t know yet if it is the 12v to 5v converter in the cables that is overheating, or just the zumo itself. Will investigate further. Anyone else notice that the faulty charging seems heat related. Tried doing a search here with limited success.

Re: Zumo XT turns off while riding
No - never had that. The XT does behave very oddly if it is left on in your pocket. So it is possible. My Zumos have always been mounted just behind the windscreen - which has a gap at the bottom - so it gets a decent airflow up the inside. Sitting here on my desk in a Zumo cradle powered by a 4A 12V transformer, my XT2 is quite warm. But it never turns off. Temp1 says 6 deg C. Temp 2 says 33 deg C. It is quite stable.
To get the battery temp info - hold the battery icon in the top right for a long time - 5 to 10 seconds. Exit button is the left hand one at the bottom of the three blank buttons. Press that. Then it comes back to the same screen. Press it again and the Zumo does a quick restart.
Where is your Zumo mounted ?

Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !
