XT2 and Tread App

Post by Maroon Dragoon »

Hi guys, just joined the forum. I am a adventure rider in Thailand and just purchased the Zumo XT2. I did all my due diligence and watched many reviews before making the decision. I now think that the majority of the feedback was from the US and EU as I am now finding some issues that are irritating to say the least. I was going to list my concerns and see if any of you guys can offers any solutions.

1. I was a Base Camp user until I lost my last Garmin Zumo on a trail in Northern Thailand. Now the XT2 uses the Tread App for planning the routes. My problem is that the Tread App does not provide any map details for South East Asia outside the names of major towns and roads so it is almost impossible to work out any viable detailed routes. Is there any alternative way of planning a route and then exporting it into the XT2?

Hi and welcome.

Though the XT2 is not officially supported by Basecamp, you can still route plan, and then send the routes / tracks / waypoints to the XT2. You can also send them to Tread as well, and if the XT2 then will try to sync them if you're using Tread on a phone / tablet, and they are connected by Bluetooth.

If you send routes to the XT2 you need to "copy" them on the XT2 to prevent the negative behaviour we call RUT this is "repeated u-turns" where the routing algorithms go silly.

HTH.

I am living in northen Thailand. Garmin dosent support Thai maps, they did when I bought my old 395 many years ago but not any more.
I am using OSM maps on both the XT2 and in Bascamp and it works perfect.
