I've found Windows Media Player here:- Windows8_OS (C:) Program Files (x86)
I do get the option to delete it but would that be a sensible option?
I'm not too good with this stuff

No don't delete it from there!
if it is installed that will not uninstall it and will mess things up further!
are you using a windows 8 pc updated to windows 10 by any chance?

Yes, I bought it with Win 8 installed and "upgraded" to Win 10 but that was soon after I bought the PC, more than 2 years ago.
Media player has always worked fine until a couple of days ago.

I'm wondering if you have had some sort of update thats caused it to play up!
you could search cortana for windows media player and see if it finds it! might save a lot of looking

I would look at downloading and re install it
it should give you the option to repair the current installation

Thanks Stu, think I'll get someone to have a look at my laptop who's a bit more clued up than me. I'll use "Power DVD for Lenovo" for now to play my Gopro stuff.
It don't take a lot to confuse me
Thanks again, Pete.

Well, aint it odd how inanimate objects can make a plonker of you!! After my last post the laptop did an update, shut itself down, restarted and now Media Player is working again. It must have been the last update that caused the problem??

if something seems odd a restart often resets things back to normal
