I found out the following. Phone and headset is connected via XT2. Phone chosen as source in music-player, and the buttons don't work, If I then disconnect the bluetooth link from my phone, and re-connect it, things works fine. I can control from XT2, and I see information about songs. The strange ting is that if I put the XT2 in hibernation or turn it off compleatly, the problen comes back when starting up again. Phone and headset connects automatically. To correct, I need to un-link and link from my phone again. I have informed Garmin about this, whitch have people looking ito my case. Hopefully they can find out. It seems like the "control protocols" are lost when re-starting XT2. If opening the music player at once after re-start, I can see the controls comes back when the phone connects. After 3-4 sec it stops working. Of cource, I can work around the issue like others do, but I think Garmin should be helt accoutable for their software. If a feature is there, it should work.
This problem is created by Tread App's poor bluetooth management. It is a failure similar to calls that are interrupted or synchronization that is interrupted. When you turn off with a short press, and the Tread of the mobile phone is hooked again, the song cover usually appears again, and that is when the songs can be managed via headphones, etc.
I am already tired of sending complaints to Garmin about the Bluetooth problems we are suffering.
You are right. When forceing the app to close, the problem goes away.
It is very important to send these problems to Garmin technical service, so that they can see that they are not isolated cases.

"Bluetooth problems with multimedia, syncing and phone calls when Trea App is fully installed"
Otherwise they will never fix it, and in this case Bluetooth is essential for the Tread App to perform all its functions.
Thank you all.

Yes. I am in contact with Garmin now, and as you see others have been trying to report this for a long time. Now, I see that when I re-connect the bluetooth link on my phone, and things are working, it all goes to hell as soon as I go to the thread app. Even if the app was open in the background all along.

Hi guys. I have finally got help from Garmin regarding the music controllers not working when phone is the Source, and Tread app is started. I had to activate Smart Notifications in the Thread app. After that everything seems to work just fine. Here is how to do it:

Ok - that is useful to know, thank you @Bjarne for sharing.
Hands up anyone who though that music would be classed as a 'Notification'.
Is there any particular category that you have to have turned on in the Tread app for it to work - or does it just come through even if they are all turned off.

U'r welcome. I think you can choose what you want, but te Thread app was one of the choises. I made sure to choose that one at least. That one may be the essential one.

My issue, also as explained in the first posting by the author of this tread, has finally been fixed, after a lot of conversation with Garmin. I could control the music player when phone was source just fint, until I opened the Thread app on the phone. Then the controls stopped working. Only way to get it back, was to "force shut-down" of the Thread app. As soon as re-opening the app, same issue again.
Under is the Garmin explanation, and a link on how to fix it. After doing this, everything works just fine. You will have to choose witch apps to get notifications from. I don't know if it is necessary to choose any other than the Thread app, witch is one of the choices. Up to you.
From Garmin: Based on the logs, it doesn't appear you has finished setup and enabled notification permission. This is needed for the music player to work. Follow our steps (link below) in Smart Notifications on the Tread and zūmo XT2 Devices
