Any exposed electrical contact setup will require some user maintenance. That's just a fact of life. Unless you're willing to pay an astronomical cost, the maker cannot be expected to accommodate every world-wide condition that may be seen by its equipment. IMHO the owner bears some of the responsibility for keeping things in good working order.

What you describe is what happens when the battery is not fully charged - and it will do this even when connected to a house charger - because the XT takes more power than the charger can typically provide.

If using a house charger, the XT needs to be in standby mode and left to charge for 24 hours.

Or if in the bike cradle it requires a number of good long runs.

You can check what current / voltage is being used/supplied - long press the battery charge icon.

The USB connector is a known weak point.

I'm not referring to the USB connector, but the 5Vdc 2-pin motorcycle mount.
