"Extra" City Navigator maps, whether purchased on SDcard or via download, do not update and cannot be downloaded to a computer. They can only be used with the XT connected. The EU map is in two parts because the FAT32 SDcard has file size limit of 4 GB. Do not delete either one as they cover different portions of the EU.

Hi Federico I am in the same situation as you are. I purchased zumo xt2 from USA and installed NTU Euro Map on July 2023, No updates since that date. Deleted maps, reset device, tried all but 2026.1 is not there. Removed North America Map but still same.

As already posted, you cannot update purchased maps, just the one that came pre-installed on the device.

Roads do not change frequently. We made cross-country trips with a TomTom GPS with the original map from 2009 to 2022, no problems. Only stopped using it because Google Maps on the phone was more convenient.

If my City Navigator maps stop updating, or if I needed maps of a different country, I would use OSM maps from OpenMapChest.org. They are very detailed, most POI are searchable, cost is zero if downloaded with a torrent client, and they are updated weekly. Compared to the Garmin map, the only missing feature that I have found is that my XT does not show the speed limit.

Whether speed limits are displayed or not is the choice of the person garminising the OSM mapping. The look of the map can also be changed. I do my own now using MKmap and Splitter (which are command line utilities)

Here is a few screenshots of various maps on an old NAV IV (Garmin 660) in simulation mode.

When I make my own maps I tend to keep with the Garmin look and feel and don't include speed limit info (it tends not to be that accurate anyway even with Garmin's Here mapping). As you can see from the Freizeitkarte and Alternativaslibres maps if you create the maps yourself you can customise the look and feel. My own maps even work on my First GPS a Streetpilot 2610 which last had a garmin map update in 2008.
