4. Now your last point you mentioned forgetting the pair connection between the iPhone and Edge? How are Voice Commands achieved for music etc without that connection. My media is on the phone.
That is a good question. With the XT at the centre of things everything is routed through the XT and that includes phone calls.
With the Phone routing music direct to the headset - I don't know where that leaves the XT. Try it and see. Let us know.
Your initial questions was to do with messages from the phone. That relies on the bluetooth link. When setting up the XT with BT I find that setting up the headphone first and making sure that you get sounds from the Zumo is a good first step. Then setting up the phone to the XT.
Often, one of these two fails to work. At which point you have to destroy all connections and repair them. This is likely because one of the units being paired has managed to pair with something else in the vicinity. Getting those two links sorted out first is essential. Trying to advise someone how to get something working is difficult if there is another connection that is screwing things up. With BT it is one step at a time.
You could then try adding the link that you wanted - eg phone music to the Cardo. Chances are that it will work - but think about what happens when your phone music is paired with something else. You will have to repair it with the Headset. By default, it pairs to phone #1 - which is the way it would have to be. That means pairing the XT as phone number 2 (because the phone has passed all of its functions to the XT to control).
Normally you would set the music source as being the phone. But now you have the phone paired to the headset. So what happens then, I do not know.
I
DO know that there have been issues in the past when the phone has been busy trying to get Spotify data and then trying to relay it to the XT; also when the phone is busy trying to process the multitude of signals that it gets from passing vehicles. Some of the more basic functions seem to suffer.
My experience with this is very limited to a few years ago when I first got the XT and it had to use BT. I tried many different ways to get it to work, but decided that music over BT when navigating was a non-starter and I have never found the need to try use it since.
And I always destroy the BT connection between the Phone and the Edge. That is because of the above and also I have no interest in saying "Hey Google, play My playlist on Spotify".
If I am playing music on the XT's MP3 player, then that
can be controlled by voice commands to the Cardo-
"Hey Cardo, Music On / Music Off / Next Track / Previous Track "
Those commands are also relayed to your phone to control whatever your phone is playing. So you can control it while it is playing, you cannot start playing something new. (You have to selecte the appropriate music source - BT or MP3 - on the XT)
I have never tried to see if "Hey Google" commands are also relayed. They ought to be, but I suspect not. Not without using the second channel.
I have seen one report that using the two channels as you suggest does work. I've not seen anybody agree and I have not tried, but I'd be interested to find out, if you would report back please !
