I had bad experiences with Garmin Drive, so I do not use it anymore
Garmin Drives changed the menu structure and the one or the other feature was not available anymore (but don't ask me what feature in details

)
Now I know that it wasn't the original question, and I'm not trying you to convince to using Garmin Drive. But...
If you say "Changed the menu structure" then I'm almost certain that you allowed to use 'Garmin Explore' when installing Garmin Drive, or you have enabled that later on. If you dont allow Garmin Explore then Garmin Drive and the XT behave perfectly, and you still can use Wireless transfer, weather info etc.
This is a (long) thread on how to install Garmin Drive without enabling Garmin Explore

Here is a link on how to setup without Garmin Explore.

I also think the troublesome feature was Garmin Explore, not Drive.
The feature you lost was probably the "Display on map" checkbox in the Tracks app, which is not available with Explore.
Drive works pretty well, and does not remove any functions.

That could be. I don't even know that there is a difference between Explore & Drive. I thought Explore is part of Drive.
So it seems I should try another shot with Drive

Someone who knows should be along in a minute, but I believe you should get rid of Explore first. And I gather that's not straightforward!

I think @conehead already removed Explore, but everything you need to know is here:
