Honoustly it would have surprised me if they would have fixed it for the XT2, but not for the XT3. Or at least sooner for the XT2 than the XT3. I did a test a few weeks ago with my XT3 and it definitely showed the same RUT behaviour as my XT did a few years ago. Applying the 'mImported fix' still works for the XT3. Note that there was no firmware update for the XT3 since I did the test.
I don’t know about that. The complaints were made first of all for the XT1. I complained about the XT2 as soon as I bought one - it was the first thing I tested, I think. By then others in other forums had started raising the issue. I think they may be using the XT2 as a test bed for the solution rather than advertising the fact that they have possibly released their latest model with a known fault.

Garmin have a history of fixing things in stages. Their solution to the issues with closest entry point I found to be very revealing. I doubt that they will offer releases for the XT1.

What amazes me is that they have not just put in an option in routing preferences to modify the mImported byte.
Eg when deviating a) recalculate to the next route point b) recalculate to the closest point on original route.
Simple.

Did the XT 1 always RUT? I know that the fastest road problem came in some time after its release.

@jfheath, another good explanation so thanks.

For me and the way we ride, I’ll view that disappearing shaping point at Addingham as a good thing. If it’s not a via point, it’s acceptable to bypass a short stretch so long as I get routed back to the plan. If it was necessary, as you say, I’d plot a via and go back to it (or skip it…..).

The road closure thing is a great bonus so far. I’ve got the track visible so can always either navigate on the fly or do a quick replan.

All good stuff to know. I do get why people get frustrated with satnavs when importing routes so the more you understand the potential behaviour, the better. Your guides have been invaluable.

I have to admit that although it grates that route points are being removed as I ride - it isn't random and the fact that it does not insist that you visit Via Points that have been put in places that you cannot reach is good and if it can 'see' the route ahead, and you by pass the turn to the route point - it deletes the route behind and starts from your current position - moving forward.

I think I mentioned somewhere that it could be quite useful for sharing routes from people using different maps.

I have some videos of it showing this behaviour with a via point here: app.php/ZXT-P200

Ignoring Via Points: A video showing behaviour with a saved route - after skipping a route point soon after the start (trying to provoke RUT behaviour)
And the one underneath showing the same test with an imported route.
