I know you aren't.
I am just clutching at straws really. The chap in the link was having a similar problem.
The only other thing I can think of is that the 595 starts in MTP mode (it doesn't show drive letters). The Zumo 660 starts in Mass storage mode - has a drive letter for internal storage. I wonder if it is an issue related to your Operating System.
Try changing it on the 595:
Turn it on and get the map display showing.
Click on the speed in the bottom left corner.
Hold your finger on the speed indication, centre top on the new screen for about 6 seconds - until it loads 'Diagnostic Page'
Select Configuration and Settings
Select MTP Settings
Select Mass Storage
Save
Exit out of it and power if off. Try again
After that, I have run out of straws

Played around with the old 660 and it works perfectly in the same USB port
Same USB lead too?

I hope not, the 660 has a mini USB where the 595 has micro USB.

Good shout, Win10 sometimes doesn't like mtp mode, should have thought of that earlier as it's advice I normally give to nuvi and Drive owners

I just wonder,
- did you try it on a different computer?
- are using a USB port that is an direct connection to you computer, not via an USB hub or Thunderbold port replicator?
- when plugged into your USB port, what is the Zumo display showing?

Well if he followed the FAQ I posted that should have been checked/changed but worth checking again that he's done so.

So where are we ?
The following has been tried and done, all with negative or no result result.
- Different cables
- Wait a long time for the laptop to recognise the unit.
- MTP setting set to"mass storage"
- Direct connection in the USB plug on the machine.
- Installed latest GARMIN USB drivers.
And just to recap.
- There is no "magic ping" when the unit is plugged into the usb.
- GARMIN EXPRESS is set to open when unit is connected.
- Unit is fully charged.
- Screen on 595 has no indication of being connected.
Tech support it is.

Well let's hope they can resolve it, something isn't right somewhere
