When the servers are back on line you can download the map to your PC for BaseCamp to use.

In Trip data what is available differs between when you're simply viewing the map and when navigating a route, so two settings needed. One based on just the map, the other when you're Zumo is actually navigating, you can do that in simulation mode and set the datafields that way for when navigating.

I guess for now I'll have to just wait until the servers are back online at which point I can learn Basecamp so I'm on the same page as everyone else.

Off-Route Calculation question

Post by Iris »

I set my gps unit to never recalculate.
If I get off route (and stray from the magenta line), I can usually find my way back to it all by myself.
There have been a couple of instances where I had to manually recalculate the route (like if there was a road closed).

Once I am ready to head out for the day, I attach the gps to the bike and wait for it to find satellites. I always wait until the gps says “ready to navigate” before putting the route in.

I hope GARMIN sorts out the server down issue. That sucks.
BaseCamp works really well for creating and transferring routes and tracks.

If you connect your device to the PC and open up Basecamp, the map on the GPS will temporarily be loaded into Basecamp. Watch the panel that shows the GPS and you will see a progress bar showing the map getting loaded. It's 3.5 GB so it will take a while. Once the map is loaded you should be able to select the map in Basecamp and it will appear on the screen for routing. If you bring up Basecamp later with the GPS not connected, the map will be gone.

Once Garmin servers are restored, download the maps to your PC.

Never mind, I think I have it, some of Garmins services must be coming back online because I've managed to connect my device to my PC via Garmin Express so I can see the maps in Basecamp and I've started downloading the maps to my PC also via Garmin Express.

I found a couple of VERY useful videos for Basecamp beginners so I'm just following those and doing a bit of practical learning, here they are if anyone else needs them (credit to the producer of them obviously):
