You can still turn off your tracks when they are not needed. The option disappears from the Tracks menu, but it appears in the collections menu.
But you turn off the collection that they are in, rather than the track.

To make control easier, make a collection called "Visible". You have to do that on the Explore website or in the Explore App.
Turn on tracks in the 'Visible' Collection. Then on the XT add whatever you want to see to that collection (items can belong to any number of collections).

Remove them from that collection when you don't want to see them.

OR - what I do is have 5 collection set up in case I want to use one.

So if I have a multiday trip, I put whatever I want on one day in one collection, another day into another collection etc , and turn on only the collection that I want.

Items that aren't in any collection automatically go into the 'unorganised' collection. (If you will forgive the contradiction).

A collection can contain routes, tracks and saved waypoints.
Better than that is that when you are looking for something, rather than looking through all of your routes, which are listed in no particular order (unless you assigned a time and date to the first location), you can look through one collection and everything you want is in one place. Then you can turn the entire collection on or off.

I like your idea of 5 collections. I'll have to give it some thought (a challenge even on my best days) and see if I can figure something that might work for me in this regard.

I've been reading your User Guide. Great stuff. Pretty pictures, indeed. Actually, I'm a graphic designer by trade and resoundingly "visual". So thanks for the images!

I just thought of something else that may stop you from losing data when you are testing things out.

You can share the tracks / Saved Location / Routes.

If Explore is enabled, then Where To->Explore or Where To->Favourites (UK) / Where To -> Saved (USA)
Then Spanner -> Share - you can share them via Garmin Drive (eg to email to yourself), or to memory card or by Bluetooth.

This works for Tracks : for Apps->Tracks->Spanner->Share
And for Routes : Apps->Trip Planner->Saved Trips->Spanner->Share

The same technique works if Explore is not enabled - except sometimes you have to click the 3 bar menu instead of spanner (in top left corner if you have the XT in landscape orientation).

You then get gpx files on your memory card or wherever else you shared them to.

Oh that's clever. I'll give this a go next time I'm working on it. Thanks!

Garmin... This could all be as simple as adding a "clear" color track option for individual tracks.

I have a simple solution. It may be the same as a couple of the responses above, so allow me to put is in simple terms...

Assuming you use collections,
1) Create a new, empty collection called ROTD (ride of the day) or similar
2) Open the track you want to see. Spanner, collections
3) Add the track to ROTD. If you also want to see custom waypoints, add them to the ROTD collection too.
4) Go to Where to? > Explore > Collections > Spanner >Collections on Map, and check ROTD & uncheck any conflicting collections

When you want to ride, simply view the map. You left the ROTD visible & made other collections invisible. If you want to see a different track, remove the old one from ROTD & add the new track to ROTD.

Tried this 3 years later, but it didnt work, disconnecting explore, which I don't recall ever connecting. Still no option to show or hide tracks on zumo xt. There used to be. Weird. Guess I'll have to use explore, very confusing all these various Garmin apps. I have drive as well but not sure what it does.

No. The way to hide a track on the map is different depending on whether or not you have Explore set up.

But first - lets check that we are talking about the same type of tracks.

A track is recorded automatically every time you go out for a ride. You can turn this off but if you do, you lose some of the accuracy in the calculations for your ETA or the duration of a route - as it uses the statistics obtained from your riding history. The display of the 'Where I have been' can also be turned off if you choose to keep recording them.

I like to record where I have been and download them and file them away in a mapping program. They are a very useful historic record - where you went and when and which roads you have travelled. If they are displayed they appear as a light blue (cyan) line drawn on the map, and there will be hundreds of them - especially near your home address.

Allow / Disable the recording of these tracks / trends and travel history in Settings -> Device -> Travel History.

If you want to record them but not have them show on the map then that setting is in:

Settings -> Map & Vehicle -> Map Layers -> Travel History (tick/untick)

If you are talking about other tracks - eg transferred into the Zumo as a GPX file or by USB cable from Basecamp, then these are accessed from the track menu.

If Explore is not enabled - then select the track and show it on the map:-

Main Screen -> Apps -> Tracks -> Select the track to show / hide -> Spanner (top left) -> Scroll Down -> SHow Track on Map (tick/untick)

This is described on this page https://www.zumouserforums.co.uk/app.php/ZXT-P57

Note that the same menu allows you to change the colour.

If Explore is enabled, then the option to show the track ont he map does not exist int he same place - although setting the colour is still there.
Instead, you have to first assign the track to a collection and make the collection visible.

This is described in a picture sequence on this page https://www.zumouserforums.co.uk/app.php/ZXT-P59

Garmin Drive

Is software that runs on your phone as an App and talks to its other half - Drive which is pre-installed on your XT.
It allows you to Synch data with your Garmin Explore Account on the GArmin Website. The idea is that you plan a route on the website, and the data is automatically picked up by Drive on your phone and then sent by BlueTooth to your XT.

But Garmin never developed the Explore route planning software beyond the ability to draw straight lines. Nevertheless the XT is still able to plot a route using that information. IT is all described in the chapter that contain the other two links - starting here.
https://www.zumouserforums.co.uk/app.php/ZXT-P55

But it also transfers other information - relating to your route ahead - eg Traffic, Weather and it can filter the type of data coming to your Zumo from your phone - eg text messages, emails, social media, etc etc. So if you want you can have alerts popping up on your Zumo screen as you are negotiating a complex road intersection !

The two do not have to be linked, although when setting up, Garmin like to give the impression that they do. You do not have to link your XT to Garmin Explore. I prefer not to, but you can link it to drive as part of the same process. That can be useful - becasue one of the other things you can do is open up a GPX file on your phone (perhaps sent by email), and choose drive as the program to use. It then sends it direct to the XT. It cuts out the need to transfer by USB cable - and you don't have to wait for the XT to connect beforehand, or restart afterwards. That is a different topic.

With Explore, track display is controlled by managing the collections that include the track. To hide a track. either disable the collection(s) including the track or remove the track from the active collections.

Without Explore, the "old way", track display can be changed from the Tracks app. Select the track, tap the wrench icon, scroll down to check/uncheck the box to Show on map. You will not see this option with Explore enabled.

Getting rid of Explore is somewhat complicated. See Break the Connection with your Explore Account.

Garmin Drive manages the data connection between your phone and the XT over Bluetooth. It is used to sync Explore data, to send a gpx to the XT wirelessly, to share a location from a phone app to the XT, and provides access to the internet for real time traffic and weather data.

If I recall correctly, Drive is not necessary to play music from the phone through the XT, or make/receive phone calls (I'm not sure about viewing your contact list). Drive is also not used for wireless map/firmware updates - that uses wi-fi, not Bluetooth.
