That's interesting. My initial thought, as my phone uses Android, is that it might be an issue on Android phones only.

What about the rest of you guys experiencing the problem, Android phones too?

Yes, Android for me. I seem to be fortunate in it works with an older Spotify version. The artwork has never worked for me, not that it worries me.
FWIW my phone runs on OxygenOS 11.

Hi guys.
I had quite a long support session with Spotify, via the only available method - chat. Kind of a nightmare, with supporters asking me to do the same basic steps over and over, like clear app cache, uninstall and reinstall the app, etc.
Then all of a sudden the supporter left the chat, and a new person came on, having to start over. Not just once...

Anyway, what's interesting is that after all the cleaning, the Zumo could control spotify again.
In order to make sure this wasn't a one time experience, I rebooted both phone and zumo. Then the same problem again :cry:

In the end, the last supporter informed me that they know of the issue. He gave me the standard message of they have good people working...
Kind of a BS statement, so I asked if that means this is an issue they actually intend to work on. No reply...

Spotify has had a bunch of updates since I last looked at this - has anyone checked if it's still not working?

Just checked on mine, as I was looking at this last night - Installed the latest software for Spotify - which turned out to b the same as what I had already - Spotify v 8.7.88.496

Zumo 590 recognsises phone
XT BT connecting to phone and Media
XT connection to Spotify fails.
Spotify on Phone access to nearby devices is turned on.

XT Fails to connect to Spotify in XT BT settings for phone, but will connect to phone media.

My 595 is a 590 with 595 software. But it did use to work when I first tried it.
I can play music from Spotify eg: I start a spotify playlist and just tell the media player to access media from the phone, rather than from Spotify, and I can control pause, back 1, fwd 1 from the media player - but no info regarding tracks. Response to button presses is slow ~ 4 secs - but Spotify has a cache.

I cannot remember what Extra the Spotify App used to give me - possibly track details. I can't remember.

Yes, used to work on both my 595-enabled 590s....

Did anyone find a previous version of Spotify that still works with their Zumo ? The last post was 2 years ago. We have a new member who is looking at Spotify on a 396.

Re-reading these posts - there was a suggestion that version 8.6.98.900 of Spotify was still able to communicate with the Zumo Spotify app, but @biz tried to replicate this without success.

@CycleChris circumvented the problem by using his Senna headset to issue 'Hey Spotify' commands to his phone - which then played what he wanted in his headset.

In the meantime Garmin have not included that as a facility on later Zumos.

OK - so I just investigated. I saw a comment in the above posts - maybe it is an iphone vs android issue ?

I don't have an iphone, but I do have an ipad, on which the software has just been updated to 17.5.1. And I have a Zumo 595, and a power supply for a bike cradle and a set of BT headphones.

This is what I get if I connect the Android to the Zumo 595

Spotify is open and running - but it isn't making a connection to the Android phone. The box will not accept a tick. It removes it and fails.



If I connect the Ipad to the 595, Spotify works OK. (Click the image for a clearer version)

Screenshots, left to right.

Track playing and image obtained from spotify. The menu button has text links to my favourites, recents, Library, etc. All of the stuff gleaned from my spotify account. Click one and it starts playing that selected list.

The BT connections. It doesn't actually have a phone connected, but it has the ipad which is capable of taking a SIM card - so it thinks that there is aphone connected. GLINBBT18 is my cheapo bluetooth headset that I use for testing Zumo functions. It has some smartphone services operating - but I didn't check which.

The 'Applications' section in the last screen doesn't appear when the Android is connexted. Smartphone link has been setup, but I didn't enable it for this screen shot. And Spotify appears in this list as connected.

So it appears as though the Android Spotify App is the thing that is causing the issues, as it is working as it should with my iPad.

Spotify has been upgrade a zillion times for Android since I last tried it, and I've changed my phone, so a newer version of Android, Must try it again, will report back once I have.
