I have a laptop that was Win8 that received a forced update to Win10
A couple of weeks ago it had another big MS update, last time I looked at it I had the front end and could log into my acccount. But all I had then was a black screen and the mouse pointer.
I suspect this may hinder me getting to grips with BC

It's definitely not gonna help the process Jim
My laptop shows a similar screen occasionally and sometimes it's only a re-boot that clears it. Technology is wonderful---when it's behaving itself.
Keep plugging away at BC, you'll find it's worth it in the end but only if you can see it on your screen!

My suggestion was going to be, if it didn't work after a re-boot, then just simply boot it !
