In other words,
Don't use the device to its fullest potential because, in the XT's case, "potential" is literal.
or
Don't let it think.

Exactly! Although TBF the only thinking it fails to do properly is when recalculating a route which you've left, or want to leave. That's certainly a fault in the XT, but failing that fault being fixed (which now seems unlikely) I find it simpler to avoid it rather than struggle to work round it.

So the XT's purpose in life, to navigate, sensibly and logically, it can't do :(

It's close enough that I have no desire to look for an alternative.

The XT does what it needs to do if all you need is to get to your destination,. Whether it does this "sensibly and logically" is in the eye of the user. I'm sure we all know people who don't care about the route, just that it gets them there. I married one. I'm grateful that she tolerates my expressive language triggered by absurd "Faster" recalcs.

My apologies to anyone offended by my success.

I prefer to think of my gps as a guide and not a thinking entity to be depended on to remind me where or when to stop for fuel, where to eat or what place to see. I'm reasonably intelligent and can make my own decisions in that regard. I long ago gave up on trying to meticulously plan every detail of my ride. I plan my trips and stop along the way at my leisure to see more and do more on my journeys and am thoroughly enjoying it as I have learned a great deal at the random highway marker and seen some glorious sights at the random turn off the route not found on any map. I understand others feel the need to do otherwise, needing every stop planned in meticulous detail. More power (and headaches ;)) to you! Not everyone is as inflexible as they.
