A software crash that requires an overnight charge to recover from. Those two seem unrelated. Perhaps they are. I have not let the XT sit overnight and then tried to start it.

I am curious whether RTL Trap errors are normal. Do you guys see them in your list of Shutdown causes?

I have around 3 in my list which dates back as far as 2021

I think there is about 5 or 6 events in there in total

As I say I have had the XT shut down on me and not restart again with power applied or a short press of the power button

I had to press and hold the power button until I got life! I have had it where it boots up normally and continues to navigate but I have also had it where the unit has reset back to factory settings but not losing any data!

I just put it down to one of those things

My 590 also did it once or twice too

I see 8 RTL Traps
I see 6 'Abnormal Powerdown - Invalid Time'

The oldest 07-01-22
The most recent 09-11-23

(So the date format must be mm-dd-yy)

Never noticed anything unusual. Doesn't bother me.

The remark from @Stu rings a bell. I have had to use the 'long power button' sometimes.
With the XT, but also for other models: Zumo 220, Etrex, Dakota 20 and Edge 1030.

I am familiar with this as well. The morning wakeup required a long press but long presses did not work the previous day when trying to get it to wake up from sleep.

There are 2 long power button presses.

A 10 second (ish) press, eg for the power off, and sometimes for powering up.
A much longer 30 second 'RipVanWinkle' press, which is what is required to wake the Zumo out of a coma.

I don't know what the difference is between them.

The amount of pressure is not a factor in applying either of these, but I find that my 30 second press is usually much firmer than any other, in the mistaken subconscious belief that it is bound to work better !

 Like pressing an elevator button multiple times to make it come faster.

I didn't know there was a 10 second and a 30 second press behaviour. I will keep the 30 second one in mind for next time.

No - neither did I, but there is a very long press option on a laptop when you can't get it to shut down, so thinking that my 2nd Zumo had died on me, I decided to give that a go and it came back to life. 30 seconds is a guess. I wasn't counting. I just pressed really hard for a long time !!

EDIT

No - scrub that. I just tried it again to shut down. Its shut down and then tried to start up again. I kept my finger on the button and it tried to start up 3 times - until a minute was up.

Then I tried to start it, and it is now stuck in a boot loop.

So I plugged it into the PC and it booted up fine. But without the USB cable it still will not boot up.

Damn.

I think I need to restore the last software update.

I'm sorry! I feel responsible.

Keep in mind that mine recovered after being on a wall charger overnight. I wonder if that would work for your condition as well.

Not at all - its my over-inquisitive mind. It's been plugged into the wall socket all day, and I've been using it for screenshots and checking out some slides I've been putting together. But owt is possible. I've just connected it to the PC, and its installed Cyclops update. So it is working when conencted to the PC. We'll see . I'll add to this post when I get failure / success.

------------

Ok it works when powering up from the wall socket USB connector.

----------------------------

BL %DC (Batter Level DC) is 75%
It powers up OK in the cradle - attached to my 12v Transformer.
Note that green battery level is down to half on the screen.

Hmm - I left it plugged in over tea since it first started doing this.

I'm in the habit of leaving the USB cable in the XT itself - to save wear and tear on its socket / circuit board.
I wonder if I forgot to plug in the other end and let it go flat ??

----------------------

Starts up without a cable perfectly OK now. Battery down to 1/3 green.
Phew - goodness - that was worrying.

I must have let the battery go flat. I've got so many USB cables across my desk at the moment - 2 Zumos, phone, headphones, camera....

Excuses, excuses.....

Sheer coincidence that this happened when I was holding in the powere button then - unless it was this that suddenly discharged the battery ???

Regardless of what caused it, I'm glad you have it sorted.
