Ok this time it is for real. Garmin released an update. Version 4.25.20. everything works as it should.

Thanks for the notification @MotoToph. I've been avoiding updates for months so as not to screw it up again but after your post I've just updated and bounced through loads of Spotify songs plus some of my mp3s directly on the phone and all's good. Thanks a lot
