just that the latest Garmin devices shouldn't use it to update the Garmin CN maps or you lose junction view and some other functionality as Express installs more than just the map during a so called 'map' update
So what you're saying is to forget about using MapInstall to just load selected map sections of NA to the XT and just use Garmin Express to install all of CN NA maps? over time of doing map updates won't XTs internal memory fill up full with no more room for maps? and what about the SD card storage, will Express use that for maps? that's my 1st preference , to use the space on the SD card that you can select when using MapInstall. btw thanks for your help, i am learning

Map updates don't accumulate on the device. The new map replaces the old one. Admittedly, the maps get bigger but I don't have any concerns about them ever getting so big as to be a space concern on the XT. I use the SD card for music and routes.

Ok thanks, I got a couple links from Garmin Support in their email reply,
I looks like selected map regions are possible using Express, but under conditions.
this is getting too complicated for me to understand
all I wanted was to use an SD card to store maps, maybe I'll just store music on it, I bought 2 new 32GB micros
Hello Zumo user,
Garmin Express installs the full coverage of the map. When space is low for the full coverage of the map, there will be an option to use a SD card (recommended) for the full coverage of the map or choose a smaller map region.
Here is a video link that goes over the message that comes up when this happens.
