@jfheath and @Deepdiver51

And also, and this is very(!) important, do not forget to get the right settings in Basecamp under 'Options/Device Transfer' - the settings there are essential for what the Zumo XT is doing after a route is imported in it!

Especially the option 'Always adjust route to the maps on my device' is really misleading! What it does, is mostly not what we want - this option will tell the Zumo XT to ever(!) recalculate the imported route, nevertheless what are the settings on the Zumo XT are otherwise and even if the same maps on Basecamp and the Zumo XT are used! I think, its very important to know what this setting in Basecamp does...

Best setting in 'Device Transfer' is, that no one of the three points are selected!

My routing problem today with my XT is a little different. The route ran fine but the banner at the top where the display shows where to turn and how far away it is froze on me twice. The only way I could get it to work again was to stop the route and restart it. Anyone seen this before?

No. The banner froze, but the rest of the screen continued its changing display ?
Are you sure that it just didn''t have anything new to say ?
What info was the banner showing, can you remember ?

I'm clutching at straws Russ - I cannot think of a reason for that behaviour. Most weird.

Thank you again for all your advice. I really should have read your in-depth instructions, jfHeath, before I started planning the trip. I’m sure it would’ve made things far, far easier.
All in all my trip was a disaster with atrocious weather, long days, especially the one when I went back on myself, a huge disappointment at the destination (boring family issues…Grrrrrr!) and a Zumo XT that acted correctly 80% of the time. I’m just relieved that I researched every day’s route on Goggle maps and Street View and had an idea of road junctions and where to go in my mind.
Just two more quick questions: 1) Is there a way to get a small compass or North arrow on the screen? This would or may have prevented me from going back on myself. 2) Is there any way to see the current time? It shows the Time of Arrival but trying to look at your watch at night, in the dark in the rain and under two layers of rain gear is a major PITA.

Sounds like a trip from which to learn lessons.

No - not a compass, but you can put a direction of travel indicator on - which shows the 8 points of the compass.

Is this something that would be of use ?

All 4 of those 'buttons' on the right are configurable.

To display that right hand panel - close down anything that is there already: Tap the cross, bottom right.
Then tap the three dot button that appears where the cross was - bottom right.
That opens up a menu with a choice of all sorts of things. Choose Trip Data.

Then you can click on each of the 4 buttons in turns and choose what you want to be displayed in that position.

The XT remembers the 4 buttons that you have created but it remembers a different group of 4 depending on whether or not you have a route running. The Zumos used to remember different sets for car and motocycle too, but I don't think that the XT does now. I've not tried it recently.
So if you pick up your XT and create the 4 that you want and then expect it to display those when you are following a route, you will be disappointed.

You have to load a route and select Go !. Then set your Trip Data display with the 4 data items that you want.

If you do not want the 4 data items, and you are happy with just one, then the bottom right white button can be configured by itself - but since you said you wanted time of day AND direction ...... The trip data panel doesn't really affect the navigation screen. It trims the left and the right side a little bit, but it also shrinks the map a little bit. I have something displayed there all of the time. It has never been an issue for me.

The speed button, bottom left cannot be configured.

Correct. The vehicle icon continued to move along the route as I did. It was in the correct place, I checked the indicated position against side street names. I could zoom in and out and still maintain an accurate position.

Are you sure that it just didn''t have anything new to say ?
I was running an active route so it should have. Both times the banner frozen on a turn or via point I had already been through.

What info was the banner showing, can you remember ?
Once was a turn I'd been through, once was a via point I passed over.

I'm clutching at straws Russ - I cannot think of a reason for that behaviour. Most weird.
When I passed over the via point, a popup appeared like a new route was beginning so I know it knew I actually knew where I was. This popup never finished, it had the spinning arrow but never spit out the info. I closed it by touching the X.

Thank you for that, jfHeath, you are the font of all knowledge.
The “Direction” will certainly help.
In your image it shows the time of arrival at the destination and then also shows a time at the bottom. Is that then the current time? Mine was always showing the time of arrival.
(Boy, have I got a lot to learn!)

Yes - I have put the time at the bottom. The time at the top is the time it expects me to reach the end (chequered flag), 3:26 orange flag is the time that I will arrive at the next Via point. Via points are usually considered as stopping places (must visit places).

Just play with it - see what you can do.

Was it one of the panels at the right hand side of the screen perhaps ? Like these:

I ask because sometimes one of these pops up un-anounced - like the Traffic Panel for example.
It then displays a circle and you expect it to do something - and it cannot because it isn't getting the data that it needs.

Here's one such popup with a circle going round and round. Its actually the weather screen in this case and it cannot find the weather info because I turned my phone off to force it !! This screenshot is with the Zumo in portrait orientation. It is starting to look a bit like your description !

Is the pop-up appearing in that position - or if you have your satnav in portrait view, it will across the bottom half of the screen.
If so - is there one that you recognise ?
