Here's another that's worth a look if you're like me---still learning :)

That really is an excellent and thorough tutorial. Takes some time to get through it, but time well spent, in my view. I couldn't get the US examples to work (presumably because I had to switch to "global map" in BC to see the US roads, and I have a subscription only for Europe maps), but it was easy enough to replicate the exercises using bits of my own data, routes, waypoints, etc.

I got frustrated a couple of times trying BC after having used Mapsource but although I don't use BC to its full potential, I do like it now and use it for all my Zumo routes.

For me Basecamp was a pain! I could never figure it out!

I used a few videos which are the same as what kernowing has posted

These helped a lot and once I learnt how to use Basecamp I will never go back

I too used the newenglandriders tutorial and found it enlightening. I then discovered that it's so much easier to not create a route, I could never get all the way through a creation before I messed it up. What I mean:

New Route button, pick your origin and destination, escape. Pick the hand button. Let Base Camp "create" the route. Now, using what you learned in the tutorial, use the editing tools- insert, move and erase- to MODIFY the route to be what you want. No muss, no fuss, done! Then, continue on with the tutorial: double click your route> move pts to roads, change name & color, etc.

Works every time for me, give it a try!

It's actually easier than that. You can just rubber band the route having inserted the start and end point and allowed BC to calculate the route. No need to use insert etc

To do so press Alt then click on the route ... you can then rubber band it to where you want.

This is what I do now I just choose a start and end point and adjust the route to how I want it
