Ok guys - quick, simple and easy-to-do hack to install maps for the Garmin Zumo XT also on PC/Mac, even when already updated to a firmware >v2.90:

All you need is a sd card or an usb-stick:
  • Copy the file 'GarminDevice.xml' from the Zumo XT (found in the folder /Garmin/) to the sd card or the usb-stick in a folder 'Garmin'
    Disconnect the Garmin Zumo XT
Open the file on the sd card or the usb-stick with an editor and search for the entry '<Name>PreProgrammedNamedMaps</Name>' - should be around line 140
Delete the part 'Named' of the file, should be '<Name>PreProgrammedMaps</Name>' now
    Save the file
Safely pull the sd card or the usb-stick and connect it again
Start Garmin Express, should now show the Garmin Zumo XT as 'connected'
    Click on the Zumo XT
    Click on 'Map details'
Click on 'Map options' of the City Navigator Maps
There should be an option to 'Install Maps on the Computer'
Please DO NOT edit the file directly on the Zumo XT, this could have unknown consequences with further updates!

This is not(!) my finding - the user 'mario_b' in the german 'Naviboard' has found this 'hack' with a lot of 'trial-and-error' steps, all kudos for finding this goes to him! I'm posting this solution for our 'cant-install-maps' problem with his permission!
If you understand german - here's the original thread at 'NaviBoard' - https://www.naviboard.de/thread/66134-k ... post531835

EXCELLENT !!! :D
I followed the procedure and :

1) The USb key was seen as my Garmin Zumo XT
2) I was able to access the installation procedure of the 2021.30 map on my PC
3) The installation of this map went perfectly.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you and congratulations for finding this clever solution

Email from Garmin today

We have now released Garmin Express version 7.6.0 for Windows and Mac which will allow you to once again install your maps to the computer.

For help with updating Garmin Express, see: Updating the Garmin Express Application Software

Thanks for your patience while we looked into this issue.

Hi all - please DO NOT 'throw away' your 'fake' Zumo XT, if you already made one!

Garmin has done it again and screwed the Garmin Express update 7.6.0.0. - you're able to install the maps again on a computer, BUT(!!) the unlock file isn't copied along and so the map stays locked in BaseCamp and you can't use it!

Many users still had verified this new bug and so you should still use your 'fake' Zumo XT (as described in post 1) as long as Garmin corrects this new bug in Garmin Express...

As 'Rofo' points out GE 7.6 does not work! I have a case open with Garmin UK to resolve the issue.

I find it so frustrating that Garmin regularly releases such 'Buggy' software.
