Need help turning off the exit image flyout.

I just returned from a trip on which I spent more time than I would have liked on interstate highways. When exiting, there often was an image that appeared on the right side of the XT screen (landscape) that showed a picture of the exit along with an arrow showing the correct lane to be in. This got really annoying. I hope it can be disabled; I can't figure out how though. Please post with the details if you know how.

Not known to me. I find them quite useful though on the few occasions that I use our UK motorways

I have a recollection of seeing a setting that I thought was associated with the exit image and making the decision to enable it. Must be just wishful thinking.

I did too, but now I don't. I guess I saw one too many and started to find them distracting.

Interesting question!

This page doesn't say anything about disabling:

https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=U ... XuuEyML7o6

But as I understand it has to do with the map. Changing to Openstreet Map, for example, will disable it. But that's not an option i'm afraid

Best I can think of is to avoid highways.

If you feel confident 'messing' with the files on the XT, you could try this:
- In the folder .System\JCV you will find some *.jcv files.
- They contain the info needed for 'Junction View'
- Simply deleting them, or better renaming, will result in the XT not finding the info about Junctions.
- What happens? I REALLY don't know. The worst thing: Could be that it renders your XT useless. The best thing: You disabled it.

I'm willing to try this, but give some time.

Thank you for the replies. Thinking about this I have come to realize that I don't trust the Junction View, no doubt a result of the prevalence of map inaccuracies. I encountered lots of them on my last trip (east coast of the US, NC to CT round trip). I'm not comfortable with manipulating the .jcv files so closing the Junction View pane as soon as it opens seems my best option.

Removing the .jcv files won't cause any issues so you can safely delete them. Personally I find them useful, they are rarely inaccurate in the UK or France, two countries I spend time in.

I ran with the Ford Sync3 satnav running at the same time as the XT in the car in June. I was surprised at how good the junction view was on the XT compared to the Ford. Good clear images showing odd junction shape like Exit left but keep in right lane. (UK remember). The Ford didn't give nearly as much notification, and failed to distinguish between two junctions in rapid succession. It would have taken me off the first when I wanted the second

The XT was very clear. With the XT it seems that I am not able to say this very often but I am impressed.

But it sounds like it comes down to the maps.

Good info about the jcv files @FrankB . If I was renaming them, I'd call them samename.jcvjfh

Just ran a quick test with the 'Indoor simulator'.

I can confirm:

- Changing to another map, like Open Streetmap, wil disable it.
- Renaming the *.JCV files will also disable it.
- And good news.. Renaming them back to the original names will restore it.

I agree with anyone that messing with the .System files can be tricky, so please make a backup copy before trying.

See the screenshots I took.
