Hi, I’m new to Garmin - just got the Zumo XT2, having had 2 previous TomTom Rider satnavs, and use google maps on my phone in the car. I ride a Honda Goldwing GL1800 (1st gen) and am about to try and mount the XT2 and connect it to the battery

Welcome to the forum. I have a 2008 GL1800. There is an accessory terminal in the fuse box (two screws, upper left). Connect to that if you aren't already using it. That terminal is switched so is powered only when the ignition is On or Acc. No fear about leaving the GPS connected and drawing down the battery. Works great for my XT. Snaking the wire under the plastic was the only challenging part of the installation.

Thanks for the info. I’m installing it Monday so will make a note of that. Thanks

Welcome to the forum BenjaminBob from another Winger. Good advice from Peabody-- also, pull in a spare cable to the left pocket when you run the power supply for the Zumo.

@kernowing, what do you use the extra cable for? I installed an accessory socket (cigarette lighter style) in mine (with USB plug) but that was plug-n-play (plug already available in bikes wiring up front). I use a USB plug in it. I regret not installing a 2-port USB socket instead, but this works so it will stay as it is. To be clear, this does not provide enough power to use as a USB connection to the XT. It keeps my phone charged though.

@Peobody I also have the cigarette lighter type socket in the front left hand pocket. I have a USB adapter to use with a Go Pro remote or to recharge GoPro batteries etc. The cable is there as a spare, never know when it will come in handy as a draw cord. Last time I used it was to pull through cable for Autocom Bluetooth dongle, this links my phone and Zumo 660 to my headsets.

Impressive forethought!
