Shipper says in email that my XT will be delivered on Monday, what's the 1st things I need to do, charge up the XT battery via usb 2 amp wall socket charger? I'm making a to-do list.

When I got my XT some time ago
I tried charging it Via the USB for hours and it would not charge

Battery was dead and I needed to charge it by connecting to the battery on the bike before I could get any joy

Assuming you have the appropriate adaptor, why not plug it straight into your mains? I imagine that will deliver more than 2A.

The problem with the Zumo XT is, that it only charges when it is running or in standby - so when the battery is really flat, it won't start up and so no charging on mains! The only solution to this is to let it charge in the motorcycle mount for a while...

Charging is obviously important. but for me that would be item #2.

Item #1 can begin today - the first reading of viewtopic.php?t=1464.

You will want to refer to it again, but the first reading will help you know what to expect from your XT and save a lot of frustration.

Totally agree with all advice already mentioned.
I would like to add 1 remark. Chances are that you will be linking the XT to your mobile-phone in order to use the Garmin Drive App.

DONT enable Garmin Explore. Unless you decided to really want to use it. The XT works different in many aspects when linked to Garmin Explore.
The button to 'Skip for now' is somewhat hidden at the bottom of your phone.

Read here how to reset the connection:

IS the XT car mount powered, or is the car mount just a holder. I can buy a XT car mount and bring my old bike battery into my room and set up the new XT on bike battery charge using a car mount, the old bike battery has a car cigarette socket I rigged up.

the wall power adapter I bought says, INPUT 100v-200v, 50-60Hz 0.35A; OUTPUT DC5v, 2.1A

will that work?

Try your 2.1A charger, but my XT arrived with so little charge that it could not charge or finish booting until I hooked up the motorcycle mount to a 12V power supply.

The car mount system is just a suction cup holder & a power cord with a cigarette lighter converter (12V to 5V) on one end and a mini-USB plug on the other.

so buying a car mount and plugging miniUSB into XT and cigarette converter into 12v battery would be same as XT on bike cradle charge? looks like it would be the same thing for XT battery charging
