Loss of 595 active phone call panel

I can initiate calls from my 595 but all further control is routed to the phone. Also the phone "app" panel has gained a voice dial function. This situation persists whether I pair the 595 with a "dumb" headset or with a Packtalk Edge. This was not the case prior to pairing the 595 with the Edge and I wonder if doing so has broken something.

The wrench tool follwed by phone from the naviagtion screen only offers the opportunity to call one of the last four numbers

Pics attached which may explain the situation. Apologies for poor orientation - that wasn't my doing.
"595 phone app" shows the app as it now appears. "595 phone screen" shows how I would expect the active control panel to appear on the navigation screen and "595 nav" what I actually see on the navigation screen.

I'm wondering if a factory reset of the 595 might be beneficial.

Cheekily wondering if @jfheath knows the solution/cause.

Go in to the bluetooth settings on your phone and turn off calls for the headset

The zumo and the headset will be fighting against each other

Thanks

Will investigate this but the phone and Edge know nothing about each other and the existing phone settings worked perfectly with the headset prior to the Edge.

Is the edge connected to the phone? If so then it will be routing calls through that

Odd - I have just answered this question somewhere else.

Phone <==================> Zumo <====== ( paired as second phone ) =================> Headsets
  1. The XT needs a BT connection to the phone
  2. The XT needs a BT connection to the headset - the XT should be paired as a second phone, not as a GPS.
  3. After setting up the headset with the app on the phone, delete / forget / unpair the phone from the headset.
The 595 is taking over all of the phones functions, so when the headset is paired to it, the headset needs to see that the 595 is a phone.
Select 2nd phone option if you have one on the headset. This leaves the first phone channel availabl for when you need to use the app to make setup changes to the headset. Always remember to delete that pairing when you have finished.

---------
When pairing the headset, make sure that the phone is off and you can hear sounds from the 595. Then turn off both headset and Zumo, and restart them again. Make sure the pairing is re-established.
When pairing the phone make sure that it is not connecting to the headset. Destroy that link. You may need to disable BT and break other connections. Once paired, wait for the Zumo to request access to phone book and call log. Say yes to both.

Once set up properly, the 3 items -phone, zumo, headset- should pair without issue once they are turned on. Best to have the cardo turned on before the Zumo, but it doesn't matter a great deal.

Apologies for ignoring your various answers.

I travelled to France on 31 May and was unable to access the forum whilst away and returned with afwul whooping cough from which I am slowly recovering.

The 595 plus phone plus Cardo Edge perfomed OK-ish except that I was unable to establish comms links from the Edge to any other devices.

Goodness me - Whooping cough is not very pleasant. Hope you get rid of that before too long.

I've attached some detailed notes about how I connected my Android Phone, Zumo XT (595 is very similar for connections) and a Pair of Cardo PackTalk Edges.

I wrote this down as soon as I had found a way that works - there may be better / faster ways - but I did it methodically rather than assuming that I know how. So there may be things in here that you haven't tried.

Like deleting the phone connection to the Edge.
Like Pairing the GPS as a second phone - rather than as a GPS.

Hi John

Being totally fed-up with the Edge I have left trying your solution until the day before another trip. I am using an iphone which means that I do not have the option to "uncheck calls" and this may be the problem. Anyway, despite carefuly following the steps in your excellent document, the 595 will not intercept and manage calls and gives no hint that a call is in progress, nor, once I have initiated a call from the 595 phone book, can I end a call using the controls on the 595. Calls are not routed to the Edge either. Interestingly, re-setting the Edge from the "app" did not reset the device name. Calls are only handled by the mobile phone and do not even reach the Edge. Bit disheartening really. It used to work so well. An N.B. arrives now. I reset the 595 and paired it with my stupid BT headset and deleted all references to the 595 and Edge from the phone and then re-paired them, thus re-creating the phone <->595<->headset and even then the 595 will not mange calls.

Regards

Richard

P.S. I am taking my password to this forum with with me!

I have a Packtalk Edge and a phone and a 595 here in a drawer. I don't have an iphone, but I the ipad is a good substitute for the menus and connections. I used to use the phone with the 595 but not with BT.

I'll see if I can reproduce your issue over the next couple of days with BT

In the meantime break all BT connections with everything. Then try to get the 595 paired with the edge - so that you can at least hear instructions.
Remember when pairing the Satnav to the Edge - roll the wheel on the edge forward to pair it as a second phone. The edge will say '2nd phone connecting' through their speakers. If you roll it the wrong way it will say something else - just roll it the other way and wait.

I shall be back - but maybe not for a day or two.

It sounds as though the headset (cheap or Packtalk Edge) is not taking control of the phone when they are paired. My android phone is just taken over by the paired device without me having to do anything.

Any ipad phone users - do you have a setting which allows / prevents a BT headset from taking the control from the phone ? (ie speach, sound out, dialling, volume )

I'll take a look at my ipad see if I can find anything on there - but since it isn't a phone, some functions may not appear.
