Welcome Barry

You had tired to write your message in the subject box rather than the text box - which is why it prevented you from finishing the sentence.

I edited it a little.

Can I suggest that you take a look at sections 1, 2, (3) and 4 of this post ? It is written for the XT, but sections 1, 2, (3) and 4 apply equally to the XT and to the XT2. viewtopic.php?p=9356#p9356 . Section 3 is largely to do with Basecamp so can be skipped for now.

You will note at some point that Basecamp says that the XT2 is not compatible with Basecamp. But it remains more compatible than any other routing software that produces GPX files and it uses identical maps to the Zumo. I have an XT2 and I still use Basecamp.

But that isn't the point. Getting you head around routes, track, route points, via points, shaping points and waypoints - is a very important first step.
The next step is knowing when to use them. You will find the answers in chapters 1, 2 and 4.
Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !
