Big Picture

Terms I'm making up for the sake of asking a coherent question. Big picture and little picture.
Mounted on my handlebar is a smartphone using the app GPX Viewer Pro. I use it to display the big picture, meaning, the entire route including a marker for my current position. The marker moves as I move which is no different than the Zumo except the phone always shows the entire route. On my XT I get the little picture or specific picture showing the present location and next turn.
Do you know if the XT can show and keep the big picture present on the screen like the GPX Viewer Pro app? I realize I can zoom out for the big picture, but after a few seconds it returns to the little picture.
If the XT can show and keep the big picture would you please provide some clues for accomplishing that objective?
I thank you in advance.
Cheers.

Not possible, AFAIK. I used GPX Viewer (not Pro) prior to purchasing my XT. As I recall, it did not provide any turn-by-turn instructions. It just displayed the route and it was up to you to follow it. The XT is a very different animal.
I understand your request though. I often take my XT in with me on coffee and food stops so I can spend time zooming out and getting an idea about the upcoming route, sometimes with Google maps open on my phone, looking for anything interesting along the way.

According to the manual in
Settings > Map & Vehicle you can turn Auto Zoom on or off. Worth a go I'd have thought.

Auto zoom is relevant to speed when you are going faster it zooms out a bit and when slower zooms in but when zoomed out it doesn't show the whole route. I am not sure if you can set the zoom levels, other may know.

Not got my XT to hand but I think if you go into the "Trip Planner", then you can see the full route.

With a route active, tap the green bar at the top of the screen. Tap the folded map icon top left.

In my office, this worked so I thank you very much. We are snowed in so I have not had a chance to use your suggestion after I start traveling the route. I wonder if the screen will go back to the small picture once the Zumo starts displaying directions? Do you know?
I thank you in advance.
Cheers

OMG, I fired up my XT to test this and now LMAO because I moved into a new house 9 days ago and it just struck me that all of my routes originate from a point slightly north or south of the driveway of the old house. Anyway, this is a neat feature. Thanks Dan. (

With an active route, I usually just touch the screen then the directional arrow then the minus button to zoom out.

Because I've never used this for anything but getting the "big picture" when stopped or even off the bike, I don't know the answer. If I get a chance to test it I'll report back.
