Sorry for being a bit off topic , just wondering if any iPhone users can help!
I'll plan a route to use on my XT and create an gpx file .
I would like to be able to share the gpx planned route with my riding buddies, most have iPhones, does anyone know of a suitable iPhone app that will enable them to see a map view of the planned route so they have a rough idea

I don't know of an app where one could directly view the GPX file. What I do is save my GPX file to the Cloud and then use Garmin Drive app to load to my XT. You should be able to share the GPX file with friends and then they could load to there XT using Garmin Drive.
Garmin Drive does not work with all Navigation units so not sure how to get them the file other than sharing from the cloud.

I have used GPX-Viewer. In fact, I used it on my first ride with a new group for navigation and meeting them at a mid-point in the ride. There are a number of similar apps available. GPX-Viewer is the only one I have tried. It got the job done but I purchased my XT shortly thereafter so only used the app that one time for navigation and a few times for looking at a route.

Gaia is often mentioned as a popular app for Iphone navigation.
It supports gpx imports of tracks, but I would be doubtful about using a Garmin route.
I do not use Gaia or any Apple product, so
caveat emptor.

If you have a Google account you can create a shareable map using Google My Maps. We do this to share our planned route with friends and relatives in advance of our trips. It can be viewed, zoomed, and panned on any device or PC. You can also select the base map.
I've done this two ways. First, if I have a track (created from a route in BaseCamp, for example) I can directly import this into My Maps and share a link. The file resides in your Google Drive. If I have a route I must first run it through
GPS Visualizer to create a KML/KMZ file that can then be imported into My Maps. The benefit of the second method is that it includes all of your shaping and via points which you can toggle on/off and shuffle into new map layers to customize the view. See below:
Method 1
Method 2
I import entire multi-day trips that are differentiated by the color of each day's route.

Thanks for your comments, found a way to do it using Mappite , I also use this to create a quick route on my phone and send to my XT via drive after saving the file .
In Mappite you can create a link and send it

This works
