So I run the route in 3d at a close zoom. Every now and again I need to see the total route so hit the map then the "snake" icon. When i return the map is in super wide mode. Sometimes if I come out of the route and back again and it returns to before but sometimes not. I then have to use the "+" button a lot to get back.

Any pointers? Known fault?

Sounds like you are touching the map then then route shaping icon, right?
If so, this is what is causing the problem.
The best way to get a view of the whole route is to touch the main bar at the top of the screen, then the map icon at top left. This will show the whole route then to return to the main display just touch the return icon at bottom left a couple of times.
