107 - Behaviour After Skip

Different Route Behaviour - If the XT has recalculated the route - eg After Skip
A comparison of Saved and Imported Routes
In some circumstances the nature of the route seems to change. It behaves less like a normal route where navigating to the next point is the priority and it seems to start behaving like a track that has been converted to a trip - with no route points except start and finish. For these 'track-trips', when getting the rider back onto the route, the priority seems to be is to navigate to the closest point of the remaining route.
Exactly when this change happens is difficult to pin down. It sometimes happens if the XT has recalculated the entire route - for example if avoidances have changed. In my tests it always happens if at any time I have skipped a route point - the whole route is recalculated - still visiting all via and shaping points - but from then on, 'closest point' seems to be the target rather than 'next route point'. - But it only happens with imported routes.
In the following tests I am comparing the behaviour of the same route in different circumstances. Saved Route vs Imported Route; Original route vs recalculated route.
Pic 1 - A Typical Route - DemoThe bike is located at a roundabout. The plotted route takes the second exit as indicate by the magenta line and the white arrow. The route passes through a shaping point at a cafe in the small village.
I decide not to visit the cafe, so I take the 3rd exit which is a 3-lane by-pass - the green road - A65 - on the screen shot. The second shaping point is located after the point where the village road and the by-pass meet.
U-turns are permitted for these illustrations - but the by-pass is a fast 3-lane road. The XT knows this and it will not request a U-turn here.
A Via Point at the top right is badly positioned in the middle of a field. This will be part of a later test.

But what else can it do - that's where the Via Point is placed. Via Points are traditionally - 'must visit' locations.
A detailed description of all of these behaviours is given at the bottom of the page.

- Within 5 seconds of ignoring the route to the Via Point, the screen changed to that in Pic 6.
- No Info. No Request to Skip.
- The route ahead is now a bright magenta - so it is the current section.
- The magenta line behind me has disappeared (compare Pics 2 and 3). It is as if the XT has calculated a new route from my current position through the remaining route points.
- The Via Point flag has been removed from the route
A detailed description of all of these behaviours is given at the bottom of the page.
