50 Show Route and Tracks Together

A Useful Trick
This uses the track method described on the previous page. The magenta line of the route drawn directly on top of the track - so you cannot see it ! But if the route is recalculated and takes a different course, the track stays put and it now stands out - especially if it is drawn in black on a daytime screen.
Here’s how to do it.
In the Basecamp Data Window, right-click on the track and click ‘Create Track from the Selected Route’ in the pop-up menu. Transfer it to the XT when you transfer the route / trip.
Load the Track.
Either: Main Screen -> Track -> 2 Pin Icon, top left
Or: Main Screen -> Apps -> Tracks
Then
Select the track that you wish to display. Ignore the Go! button.
Click the Spanner icon, top left.
Three menu options of interest are shown in Pic 1:
Navigating with a Route AND a Track Loaded
The screen images below show the magenta route at the points where it deviates from the original. The magenta line is the route which for whatever reason has been recalculated. The red line is the track which follows the course of the original route.
Pic 3 shows the magenta route has been recalculated to turn right. The red track is revealed to show where the original route was plotted.
Pic 4 shows the magenta route rejoining the red track. You have the option of following the red track (and ignore the satnav’s complaints) or the magenta route.
There is a pretty good chance that as soon as you ignore the stanav’s instructions and head off in the direction of the red line, that the XT will recalculate the route again and choose the same roads that the red line is following.
In order to show the track on the map, the above instructions will work providing you have not yet set up a link with a Garmin Explore Account. If you have, then it would help for now to disable it. See the Additional Information section.
