60 Create Collections

On the Explore.Garmin.com website

Once You have set up an account on the Explore.Garmin.com website, you can use it to create routes, tracks, Waypoints and collections.

Transfer of such information is performed automatically between the website and your XT - providing that you have internet access on your phone and that the XT is linked to the phone by Bluetooth, using the Garmin Drive App. All of this is explained in the video link at the start of this chapter.

The transfer happens in both directions - for Waypoints and tracks. Whatever you do on one implements the same change on the other. Something that you have to remember - as cleaning up tracks and Waypoints on your Explore website screen will result in those edits being made the next time you power up your XT.

Collections

Are a bit different. You can use collections on the XT if you have already set them up, but at present, you cannot create them on the XT.

This is crucial if you like to have Explore enabled, and you want to display tracks as well as routes on the satnav map. You cannot do it without using collections.

So what I have done is to set up a handful of empty collections on my Explore.Garmin.com account - just so that I can make certain items visible or invisible.

The process is straight forward. The screenshot shows the relevant 'Collections' section of the Map screen:

The circled plus ‘+’ button allows a new collection to be made. Give it a name, click Next and Save. No need to make it available on MapShare. I have created 5 such empty collections. JFH Coll #1, JFH Coll #2, … etc.

Once they are have been synchronised with the XT - just turn on the XT and wait - you can add routes, tracks, and Waypoints to a collection, which gives you the ability to make them visible or not on the map. Removing any item from a collection simply leaves it in the Unorganised collection. It doesn’t delete it.

The way to do this with tracks is described on the previous page.
