65 - Using Explore's Icons

On Trips Created with Basecamp.
The Waypoint icons created by Explore are much smaller than those used in the XT, but the waypoints are saved separately from any route or track - they can not be used as an integral part of a route, as they can in Basecamp.
But it is interesting to use them on the Zumo screen. I am going to describe this process in pictures.
Explore’s Map page.
Explore can group items together into Collections.
My collections are are outlined in red. JFH Coll #1 to JFH Coll #5 are normally left empty. This is because although I can use the XT screen to add items to an existing collection, I have yet to find a way to creat a new collection on the XT.
The Eye icon that is on the right hand side of each of my collections is there to make a collection visible or invisible on the Garmin Explore Site.
In Pic 1, I have turned off the collection of 'Items Sent to Mapshare'. The eye icon at the top of each section can be clicked to turn on or off the entire group.
In Basecamp.
I have created a Trip using 6 Waypoints with the flag tool and 3 inserted points with the Pencil Insert Tool.
The tables underneath the map show the bottom left 'Data Window' pane from Basecamp. Waypoints show up in this Pane, but not the inserted points.
The larger table of points in Pic 2 shows part of Basecamp’s Trip Properties. This can be obtained by double clicking the magenta route, or the name of the route in the Data Window.
This identifies which points are the non-alerting Shaping Points, and which ones are the Alerting Via Points. I have added a sequence number to the name of each point.
Only 01, 07 and 09 are Via Points. The other 6 are Shaping Points.
3 of the points that I originally saved as Waypoints are set to be non alerting Shaping Points in the route - points 02, 04 and 08. They are still Waypoints though.
Connect and Transfer
Connect the USB cable and Transfer the Route to the XT’s Internal Memory.
Wait for the transfer to complete (check the green progress bar). Unplug the USB cable and let the XT restart.
On the Explore Website
You may need to refresh the web page, or Force the XT to synchronise:
Where To -> Explore -> Spanner -> Sync Explore Data
Or just wait for it to happen by itself. It doesn't take long.
But without having to do anything but wait, the data from the XT appears on the Explore website.
Only the Waypoints are synchronised but they have the full name that I gave and they have defaulted to showing the small green flag.
These points can now be edited - either on the XT, or much easier on the website.
On the XT:
The next step is to make sure that they are visible on the XT.
Where To -> Explore -> Spanner
This shows the top menu on the right. Sync if you need to and then:
Click -> Collections on Map.
This lists the available collections of data from Explore. We haven’t put any data into any collection as yet, but if we had, this is where we can choose to hide the collection or show it on the map.
Unseen, all 6 of our Waypoints have gone into the default Unorganised collection - which is the only collection that is
created for you. Make sure that 'Unorganised' is ticked to allow the data in that collection to be seen on the map.
If we had taken an extra step and put all of the Waypoints into the JFH Coll #1 collection, then we would tick that.
