Section 7b
Off-Road Routes
Without a Navigable Off-Road Map
If you have navigable off-road maps available, then off road navigation is
straight forward. You plot your route along the mapped tracks and trails, and
the SatNav will guide you along your route, in a similar way to how it navigates
along normal roads.
This section is to do with making a Route to navigate using maps that do not
contain navigable paths or trails.
Garmin Explore
In a number of places I have referred to using the Garmin
EXPLORE Website.
This is a facility which allows the creation of point to point routes
and tracks which will automatically synchronise with your XT. ie - create a
route on the website, it appears on your XT. No wires, cables or transfers.
It requires a smartphone with a 3G/4G/5G data provision and the free Garmin Drive
App. rather than describe it in these pages, I have put together a series of 4 short videos showing the process of setting this up.
It shows the Smartphone screen and XT screen side by side.
