And save to the XT using the Drive App
In order to send GPX files to your Zumo XT by email, the Garmin Drive App needs to be installed on your phone, and a Bluetooth connection between your phone and the XT needs to be established. See Pic 1.
The first part of the process is to get the gpx file onto your phone.
You may have used an app on your phone to create one. I
haven't.
Instead, I used Basecamp on my PC to create a gpx file and send it to my
phone - by attaching it to an email.
- Make sure that your Zumo hasn’t gone to sleep.
- Send an email with a suitable gpx file attached to your smartphone.
- Open the email on your phone and tap the attached gpx file.
The picture sequence describes the process - after the email has been received by the phone, and you have clicked on the attached file. The notes underneath add a little explanation.
- Make sure that Garmin Drive is installed on your smartphone and it is linked to the XT by Bluetooth.
- You have received the email on your phone, and you have selected the attached gpx file. The phone asks which app you wish to use to open it.
- The Drive App receives the file. Yes - send it to the XT.
- Click Send - watch the progress bar on the phone. The Zumo may display a calculation message
- The Zumo reports that it has received new tracks, Waypoints, routes - according to the contents of the gpx file. It tells you where to find them. The terminology on the message shown is odd. ‘Locations’ means ‘Waypoints’ and ‘Saved Locations’ is called ‘Favourites’ on UK models. They are all the same thing.
- The actual gpx file is saved in the Internal Storage / GPX folder on the XT (Pic 6)
The filename indicates where it has come from along with the date and time. In this example a single gpx file stores the route, track and a few Waypoints.
It is named: ‘shared_from_phone_07-28-2021_16_08_49_372.gpx
The routes, tracks and waypoints may need to be imported before they can be used.
If you have BT available from your PC, then getting the gpx file to your phone may be possible without using email. I don't know, I have never tried.
