Re: New type of "Routing Point"

Yes, routinely. My trick is to strategically place a Via point on the road somewhere before the potential stop .... That works fine except where the point you may want to visit involves a bit of navigation to get there! That's where I see this "Alerting Shaping Point" being really useful.

New type of "Routing Point"

Just back from an 1100 mile trip round SW Ireland, my first using the XT in anger. Taking on board a lot of what I've picked up on here I must say the XT performed faultlessly (apart from one instructing me to go "off road" which was actually a slip road onto a motorway!). One thing I'd like ...

Re: Being forced to go back to a waypoint

I'll have to resign myself to the fact that it isn't available on the XT2. Pity as it was really useful in the past. Unless of course a Garmin developer is following this thread and also thinks its a great idea! :P

Re: Being forced to go back to a waypoint

jfheath the second ping you heard was probably as the simulation left the proximity area (the other side of the circle). This is what the Montana would do, Alert when it reached the circle, then again as it left. I've still had no joy in getting it to work on the XT2. Will check against the ...

Re: Updating Basecamp maps

Thanks Ikraus - I think the error is renaming of certain Route points - but I think jfheath seemed to think that was sorted with an update to the XT2.

In the process of doing that now - I was looking in the wrong area in Express!

Thanks again.

Updating Basecamp maps

I've seen this somewhere but can't find it now I need it! The UK/Northern Europe maps on my Basecamp are older than those on my new XT2. How do I update BC to the same map versions please ( trying to avoid any possible mismatch or recalcs when i transfer routes).
Thanks

Re: Being forced to go back to a waypoint

Jfheath Ive just tried a simulation with the Proximity alert on the XT2. I'm not getting any notification. Can I ask if you tried this on the XT or XT2?

Re: Being forced to go back to a waypoint

That's good news. On the Montana it actually comes up on screen with a prompt that you've reached the outer limit of the proximity warning. That can be cleared or ignored and it will clear itself. Similarly as you leave it. I was sort of counting on it for a 5 day excursion round the Wild Atlantic ...

Re: Being forced to go back to a waypoint

Hold that thought! It definitely works in the Montana 700i but in a test route I tried on Saturday it announced the Via Point but seemed to ignore the Proximity alert. I'll do some more tests. I'll be disappointed if it doesn't work in the XT as it was such a useful feature in the Montana.

Re: How do I know what to Import?

Thank you for the detailed reply! I always transfer my routes to the sd card so as to try and keep the internal memory free for map updates etc. So if I'm understanding you correctly, when transferring I should select the higher route/track numbers? Eg if I'm transferring a single route and I see ...
