I am not at a place where I can look up what I use to do to make this work on my 665. But I did send my 665 off to the Palm DR and got a 16GB chip installed and the issue no longer exists. Well worth the money and removes the issue of map file size. Again, not an immediate help for you but just one ...

I had the same problem after downloading 2018.1 but got lucky I guess as a reset cured the issue... I would contact PalmDr if I were you...
