My XT arrived today and I put some MP3s on the 128 GB SandDisk card and popped it in the unit. The GPS cannot locate the music files. I created a directory structure of root/garmin/mp3 And put all my files in that mp3 folder. No joy.
I then put the mp3 folder in the root of the sdcard and still no joy at finding the music files. I was not prompted to format the card in the XT but I did format it in my PC before adding the files
Anybody have any ideas? Appreciate the help;
Gord

Re: New XT and MP3 Problem
root/MP3 is the correct location
Note the MP3 - rather than mp3 - I think it still makes a difference - ie MP3 works, 'mp3' doesn't work.

Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

Re: New XT and MP3 Problem
Here's is a snippet of what's on my SD card for the 595.
Root F: with 2 main Folders. The 'Garmin' folder contains folders for routes & waypoints and maps. The 'MP3 Music' folder contains folders named by artist, each of these contains folders by album title.
Note- the music must be in the mp3 format to play. I had that problem yrs ago. My mp3 player played all kinds of formats so I never really paid attention. But when I first tried with a Garmin it wouldn't do it because I had my music in Windows .wma format. I had to convert to mp3 format for both the nuvi back then and the zumo now to recognize and play music.
That's it, everything that's on my SD card. Garmin said a 1000 songs max but this card plays fine with closer to 3000 songs on it.

Re: New XT and MP3 Problem
I found this thread and it helped me to get some music on my Zumo. I have another issue though and I was wondering if you could help. Seems most of my music is M4a format. Does anyone know of a free and safe converter so I can change it all to the required MP3? Much appreciation in advance!!!
Re: New XT and MP3 Problem
If you can use a Linux computer or install Ubuntu in windows then using ffmpeg is really easy and fast. I did the same when I wanted my Apple Music on my sd card for my XT
You might find other videos better explaining, I just took ons to show what I’m talking about.
