Thanks @lkraus. Yes, Disabling BT makes sense. Wifi is never on for me. There's no way I'm giving Garmin Wifi access to my XT !
Fallguy67 wrote: Fri May 13, 2022 6:42 pm Sorry to be a little off topic. But the explorer app on my phone says the XT is not compatible… Am I doing something wrong?
No - nothing is wrong. Explore works with many devices to relay information direct from the app to the device in question.
The XT isn't one of those devices. In other words, the Explore app on your phone cannot connect directly with your XT.

But the Explore App will still do what you want it to do, because it can still store data on the Garmin Explore website.
You have to wait a tad longer because the app needs to synchronise with the web server, and then the Xt needs to synchronise.
But normally, that is pretty rapid. Not instant, but a few seconds.

So:
The data goes from your phone over the internet to the web-server.
The Garmin drive app on your phone then picks up the data from the webserver
It then sends it by Bluetooth to the XT.

So it still works very well, and once drive is installed and working, nothing else needs to be done.
The data just takes a longer route to get to where it needs to be.

Now where have I heard that phrase before ?
Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

Are you sure?

I would have thought the Zumo uses the internet connection through your phone to update and sync the data on the server the same as it does when connected to WIFI

Yes, I am sure.

But there is nothing wrong with the first part of your statement.

The explore app on your phone (the mapping program) communicates with the explore website via the internet -4g or whatever.

The XT does communicate over the internet - but it has to go through the drive app on your phone.
The drive app communicates with the XT by BT. Turn off BT, you lose the drive app connection.

The XT doesn't use its wifi capability to link to the Explore website. Not in my case anyway.... My XT never has wifi turned on - i don't give it my router details.

Actually that makes sense!

As you don't connect your phone to the XT via a wifi connection using your phone as a wifi hotspot its only connected via bluetooth :)

My phone isn't set up to provide a wifi hotspot as such.
It's the Garmin Drive App that provides the link.

Yes that's what I meant

After thinking about it you only pair the phone via Bluetooth so there is no other way the info can transfer

I assumed so, but I do use the phone as a Wifi Hotspot for my iPad when we are away from home, so I thought I'd better mention it in case others were confused when reading this in the future. For me, it saves having to pay for another SIM card for the iPad.
