There is a "Spoken Navigation" enable/disable option under the Volume button. Sadly, mute and volume all the way down don't prevent the XT from announcing. It just does so silently while interrupting intercom communication.

1 The orange flag on the map of the approaching via point
2 Possibly the white marker on the plotted magenta line indicating a direction change
3 The top bar of the XT screen will show the same message as text.
1 and 2 won't help in this case since I'll be dependent on the a WP named something like "D3_07_No coffee exit anyway". I am hoping that number three works and that the XT doesn't change the name of that WP.

If you create the route point as a genuine Waypoint - ie one that has been created by the Basecamp flag tool, and/or one that has been added to the route on the XT using the Favourites or Saved locations, then yes the ViaPoint will keep its original name.

Curiously, the name of any point is retained if the route has been generated by MyRouteApp - for reasons that I have established here
You might want to check on how many characters of the name are displayed across the top of the screen. Just try it out, Create a point called ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ, and see what letter it displays up to when you get close to it.
Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

The XT doesn't use a fixed size font so in YMMV but in my two tests, all letters resulted in 37 characters and all numbers was 34. This was in simulation mode. Based on what I saw in the simulation, the usage of a WP named with an instruction should work keeping a 30 character length in mind.

Thanks again!
