I got my Zumo XT swapped about a year ago for a device that was overly sensitive to raindrops on the screen.
Yesterday I just got back from a 3300 mile trip to the Rockies in the US - Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado... great trip!
The device was as flakey as ever - usually rebooting at least once a day - but I'm used to that. My old unit did that too. My desire is that one day in the future a firmware fix will make it reliable.
HOWEVER - the big bummer is that I took the occasional screenshot, as well as recording tracks, and I cannot get the device to connect at all!
Multiple cables, multiple computers. MacOS Monterey (with Android File Transfer) and Windows 10.
On all three machines, there is no evidence whatsoever that a USB device has been plugged in. The Zumo knows it's connected (www.garmin.com/express) but - that's it. "System Report" in MacOS sees no USB devices connected. Windows10 usually makes a happy little "boopity boop" sound when it sees something connected to the USB port... no such sound occurs when the Zumo is plugged in. The USB cables are good - taken from external drives that are currently in service as backup devices.
I've emailed Garmin and I'm waiting to hear back. I'm fairly certain that the best they'll be able to do is swap it out again (if I'm lucky!) - resulting in 100% loss of the data I'm trying to copy down.
When it works, the XT is a slick device - but damn, after a couple years I still feel like I'm testing a beta device. I'm extremely disappointed.
USB absolutely not working on replacement Zumo XT
Re: USB absolutely not working on replacement Zumo XT
In case anyone is curious.. when I look into the reboot causes (press on speedo for 5-8 seconds, select "Developer Info", and then "Shutdown Causes" on the XT, MOST of the messages say this:
"Abnormal Powerdown - Invalid Time" (gee, that's informative).
About 1 in 5 of the error messages say "RTL Trap - xx:xx AM/PM mm-dd-yy Out of TSK Memory"

Re: USB absolutely not working on replacement Zumo XT
Something to look at is the jack on the XT. My first XT was replaced due to the jack being broken (the metal part could be moved back and forth). Surprisingly, the XT recognized when it was connected to the PC but the PC couldn't see it. I could get that connection if I moved the plug into just the right position but holding it there was a problem. The slightest movement would break the connection.
I can't help with the reboot problems although the "invalid time" reference seems to be a case for a factory reset.

@cr0100 - The cable has to be a power and synch - but I get the feeling that the original cable may be wired slightly differently. If you can find it, give that a try. It is the one that you tend to lose because it is often way too short to reach the computer.
Regarding recovering your data - it is tedious to use this method for large amounts of data - but you may be able to retrieve track logs, routes etc by using the 'Share' facility. If I remember correctly, you can share to the SD card. Hope that info is correct - i haven't tried it recently.

Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

Re: USB absolutely not working on replacement Zumo XT
Well, I found a cable that works perfectly well with my "DriveSmart 51" Garmin. In MacOS "System Report" I see the device on the USB bus. For the Zumo XT it never shows up as any sort of device (nothing showing on the USB bus).
I've opened a ticket with Garmin and I'm waiting to hear back from them after their initial reply which suggests I try everything that I told them I had already tried before opening the ticket with them.
Another question for all of you: When you UNplug the Zumo XT from the comptuer, does it reboot, or change screens, or anything? Mine sticks to the garmin.com/express screen until I reboot it.

Sounds like Garmin believes me that I've tried all necessary things, and this device (which was swapped out a year ago) is probably going to be swapped out again. This feels like I'm in part of a beta program, not the owner of a top-of-the-line device! So it goes. Frustrating.

Re: USB absolutely not working on replacement Zumo XT
Sorry to hear of your problems, I have had my XT since March 2020, one of the early units in the UK. It has been faultless, I am even running the early 'unmodified' power leads on the bike! - I got Garmin to send me the latest version, for when it packs up!cr0100 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 27, 2022 3:48 pm Sounds like Garmin believes me that I've tried all necessary things, and this device (which was swapped out a year ago) is probably going to be swapped out again. Both of my XTs have been prone to lockups and rebooting - even with low-duty tasks like just showing where I'm going (not navigating or anything compute-intensive). I guess I'm just lucky.
