Hello guys,
Just installed my Zumo XT. Used the heatshrink hooks and connected directly to the motorcycle's battery (which is in great condition).
Now when I attach the GPS unit to the cradle it won't charge.
Am I missing something? Or is this a case of bad wiring?

Re: Not charging despite being connected directly to battery
Mount the cradle and see if that helps. The top of the cord, where it inserts into the cradle, is held in place by the mounting of the cradle. In fact, some of us have had to put a piece of foam weather stripping on the back of that cord before mounting the cradle so as to add just a touch more pressure which then forces the pins out the other side a bit more, increasing contact with the back of the XT.
There is a photo here: viewtopic.php?t=1770&hilit=foam&start=20. I believe much of that discussion is relevant.

The block with the pins that fits into the rectangular hole. Doesn't that need to be secured with a small screw to stop the XT pushing it out.
Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

As others have said, you do not seem to have secured the cable into the mount base with the tiny screw. The cable is probably moving around.

Well... I went on and installed the missing screw. Still no charging. While doing so, I've realized that one of the two pin connectors is loose. The cable is definitely defective.
I will call the seller monday morning. Let's see how long it takes to get a replacement...

Re: Not charging despite being connected directly to battery
I would check the connection pins with a multimeter to see if there is power to the pins. If not do you have the fuse inplace and if so the fuse good? Lastly check you connection points, splices, etc.

Re: Not charging despite being connected directly to battery
Got a new power cable from Garmin. The pins on this one seem ok. Mounted the cradle and still no charging.
I should have a 5volt read on my multimeter if I check the pins right?

Re: Not charging despite being connected directly to battery
I'm actually getting 10v at the pins
I'll return the full unit tomorrow. Maybe get a TomTom or something that actually works like it's supposed to work...

Re: Not charging despite being connected directly to battery
If you are getting 10 volts at the pins the cable is faulty. The little black box steps the 12 volt supply down to 5 volts for the XT.
Just noticed! the red lead on your multimeter is in the wrong hole! it should be on 'DC' not AC. Move it & retry.
