Hi all,
As I wrote earlier suddenly the sound fell away from the 396. This has happened a few times, and was getting to the point of returning to the dealer. However in trying to update the music on the 396, the SD card holder came away. it was always problematic to install correctly, and now it came away entirely.
The bluetooth to the SMH10 was also flaky, which meant I had a few minutes of playing with it to get it to connect. However the SMH10 was beginning to be problematic even with the Nav IV.
I have now had it with the device, I think I will go for the larger screened version 595 Travel version. This allows me to take the device on holiday, and use it in the hire car.
I will probably have a bit of a fight in getting the upgrade (even though I will pay the price difference.) Here's hoping.
Best regards

Thanks for the comments.
I hand the device back tomorrow, for returning to Garmin. We shall see what happens.

I've found quite the opposite, a steep learning curve. I've been thinking of making a paperweight or a bird feeder out of mine. I

Re: Fed up with the 396 going to the 595
As it was faulty, (SD Cover came away) I have returned it to the dealer. It is my local BMW garage, so it is in their interest to keep the customer happy.
I can get the 595 at a discount from a local internet supplier, and I have asked them to price match. I have told them what the price is, and where to find it. I would rather they get the business (and the profit) than the internet company.
As I will be going to the UK at the beginning of October, time is of the essence. They know it, and if Garmin get funny - I will get my money back, and then they can fit the new mount. I am very grateful for the consumer protection that gives me the choice of remedies rather than the dealer / manufacturer.
Best regards

Re: Fed up with the 396 going to the 595
Hi all,
Update. The dealer repaired the 396, and has decided to keep it as a store model. Next week they will be installing the 595 and I just have to pay the price difference.
So Customer Service is not dead, but alive and well and living in Antwerp.
I am looking forward to having the 595 next Thursday.
Best regards
