To change the detail, look at the top set of icons. Can you see a pull down that says "Medium" or "High" or similar? if not, right click when up there and you will see a list of items to display. Click on "Detail" and it will appear.

Also, make sure you have "Map Products" enabled and that you are not using the "Global Map".

I have tried the detail setting didn't make any difference when in full zoom!
Does the Zumo have to be connected as the software is the latest but the basecamp only thinks it 2008 from my old 550?(when the Zumo isn't connected)

Try ctrl-G to switch from basic map to detailed map.

Garmin Express let you install the maps on your computer as well and in that case, you don't have the GPS to be connected.

Sounds to me like you don't have current maps installed on your PC. Do you have detail with the GPS connected?

Which map do you have loaded? You do NOT need your zumo connected if you have the maps on your PC.

Here's a picture with medium detail and then maximum detail. There is a lot of difference: You can also see the toolbar at the top which shows the map and the detail level.

I was going to ask about the Global map, but as others beat me to it, I will not.

In terms of using BaseCamp over MapSource.

I first learnt to use MapSource (after a lot of blood, sweat, swear words, and tears) and it became easy to use. BaseCamp is built on similar ideas, and functions. Its main strength is that you can set up a list where you have all the Waypoints grouped together in neat lists. This means if a friend moves, then one adjustment and everything is adjusted.

If you can get over the learning cliff (it is rather steep) then you will reap the rewards. You can make plans which can translate easily into the Zumo, without the need for a recalculation - assuming the maps are the same!

Note you may not see the detail level toolbar as default. You need to set up which toolbars you do see under View, Toolbars.

Being a bit of a numpty, I spent ages trying to find the "Insert" button last night. The page you linked to is now bookmarked in a Garmin folder.
