Re: Updating maps and software
I prefer Express. The one time I updated via Wi-Fi Express didn't see the new map on the XT and installed it again. I created some aggravation due to the listing of two maps even though the XT only showed one. This was before the map required two files. I don't remember the details of where those listings were but I have stuck with doing map updates with Express ever since.

Re: Updating maps and software
I've completed all of my updates via wifi on my home network. I have Fiber optic high speed internet connection and mesh wifi, so it was pretty quick. Zero issues with updates that way. But, then I have to update basecamp, so I don't know that I save any time... LOL

Re: Updating maps and software
I am not sure if it is of interest to you, or indeed if you use them, but 'Cyclops' speed cameras can only be updated via Express & not wifi. (don't ask me why!)
Re: Updating maps and software
hi I am also the same as @jfheath and never use wifi for a number of reasons.
personally I always use a cable and Garmin express, and just in case if you use a Mac, make sure that basecamp is completely closed down other wise express will not load, same the other way round. Not sure if it's same for windoze PCs

Re: Updating maps and software
It doesn't always happen but sometimes Base Camp and Garmin Express don't play well together on Win OS. I learned long ago and have been saying for a long time, one or the other not both at the same time. Even so far as to disable GE from running in the background.

I do agree, on Mac there is a small black triangle in the top menu bar, if you close GE this will still be present, it has to be clicked and disabled from there, but I am Sure you are aware of this, however others may not be.Even so far as to disable GE from running in the background.

Re: Updating maps and software
I would add that in the last 18 month I do not update before a big tour or holiday. The update has at times caused too many problems and on once killed the unit. Before this updates were no issue.

Re: Updating maps and software
I still use Express and never have used WiFi.
In Express, Gear Icon, General settings, each new update of Express will set this to keep Express running in the background. I always turn it off.
The reason for this is mainly due to not wanting to have programs running in the background when they don't need to be.
The other is that one day I was talking about a fault with a Garmin Technician and I asked if he needed me to send the relevant files. He said, its Ok, I can see them !!
So my Garmins do not has never been givent he apssword for my Wifi, and it is never connected to Express unless I specifically run it.
Oh - and while typing this, v 7.16.3.0 has demanded some attention.
